Shikara Trailer Launch: Vidhu Vinod Chopra Felt Casting Bollywood Actors In The Film Would Have Made It Look ‘Fake’
The trailer of Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Shikara was launched today. We are at the event which was attended by the filmmaker and Oscar-winning music maestro, AR Rahman. During the media interaction, the filmmaker who returns to direction after 13 years was asked about why he didn’t cast Bollywood actors in the film.

Chopra said, “I wanted all new people because if this film was made with Bollywood actors, it would come across as 'fake'. Just imagine the biggest stars in the trailer, the story wouldn't look convincing enough. So, I wanted real people. And I wanted most actors from Kashmir.”

He narrated an incident wherein he spoke to one of the Kashmiri girl's father who couldn't believe it's him on phone. So, he literally had to do Facetime with the girl's father.

At the event, the director-producer also spoke about using foul language in real life. He said, “My daughter who studies in Standford tells me not to talk in English as people don’t get it. But when I abuse, people get it pretty quickly. So ab poore crew ko aadat ho gayi hai ki agar yeh bolega, yeh gaali ka yeh matlab hai aur yeh gaali ka yeh matlab hai. Aur meri foul language mein kuch foul hota toh yeh (AR Rahman) yaha nahin baitha hota. This is not foul. Yeh zubaan jo hai na, jisko aap Urdu, Hindi, English bolte hai, main gaali bolta hu.”

Vidhu Vinod Chopra has directed, edited and produced the film in association with Fox Star Studios, Shikara is set to hit the theatres on February 7, 2020.
